This publication focuses on the management of the nexus of energy, food and natural resources in sub-Saharan Africa, with a clear focus on gender roles and implications. It presents case studies that showcase a range of options available to improve biomass use, especially in locations and among populations who currently depend on conventional fuels like firewood or charcoal. Although many of these options are context specific, the provided examples demonstrate that generalizable options exist to improve energy access, reduce waste, protect our soils and empower women.

A Water-Secure, Climate-Resilient Future for Cities

Globally, the effects of climate change are felt with rising temperatures, droughts, heatwaves, and more frequent and severe storm events impacting water quantity and quality. In response, water managers need to ensure that communities are resilient to water scarcity pressures and water excesses and that the natural system and its associated ecosystem services are protected and enhanced. For cities, the primary strategies available to enhance the resilience to climatic extremes include applying demand management, developing alternative water sources, and implementing blue-green infrastructure (BGI).
