The River Basin Network (RBN) also lent support to the Expert Group on WFD and Agriculture in its work by offering technical and from-the-field feedback.

Are We Destroying Our Insurance Policy? The Effects of Alien Invasion and Subsequent Restoration - A Case Study of the Kromme River System, South Africa

This study, using historical aerial photographs and mapping techniques, investigates how the South African Kromme River Catchment has changed over the past century. It illustrates that the catchment, which is valuable in providing water for the Nelson Mandela Bay metropolitan hub, has become heavily degraded due to agricultural activity and invasion by an alien species, and provides some recommendations for future management of the area.

An Economic Valuation of a Large-scale Rangeland Restoration Project through the Hima System in Jordan

This paper presents an ex-ante cost-benefit analysis of large-scale rangeland restoration through the Hima system within the Zarqa River Basin, drawing on experience from a pilot initiative by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture since 2010. The ecosystem services that arise from rangeland restoration are valued using a combination of stated preference, avoided costs, replacement cost, and market prices approaches.
