‘The biggest private sector: what place for the informal economy in green and inclusive growth?’ was a conference held in London in February 2016 which aimed to build a new policy agenda for integrating the informal economy into inclusive green growth and sustainable development.
Over the last 20 years, economic growth has helped to lift almost a billion people out of extreme poverty. But 1 billion people are still extremely poor.
The issue note focuses on one aspect of the social consequences of green growth, the labour market aspect, bearing in mind the importance of differences across countries, particularly by level of development, with the hope that it can provide some ideas for improving policy formation and analysis
The greening of the economy is a shared goal for advanced and less advanced economies alike, particularly where sustained and inclusive employment is an objective for policy-makers.
