The Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development represented by the Permanent Secretariat of the National Council for Environment and Sustainable Development organized, in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a national workshop on “Green Economy and Environmental Accounting” in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on the 8 and 9 October 2012. This event brought together 150 experts and participants from various ministries, intergovernmental organizations, civil society, academia and the media. The event was organized in the context of the country formulation of its Poverty-Environment Initiative (“PEI/Burkina”), with the financial and technical support of UNDP and UNEP.
The objectives of the project were to attend the Burkina Faso national workshop on green economy and give a presentation on the status of implementation of advisory services for the country and meet with various technical national experts including those who have benefited from the Millennium Institute training on the use of the Threshold 21 model.Participants heard presentations on various topics that are linked to the transition from the “brown” to the green economy such as: the sustainable consumption and production modes, the concepts of green economy, growth and GDP, natural capital.
