On 17 June 2019, the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is offering a 6-week MOOC on "Building expertise on developing sustainable and resilient infrastructure".
Infrastructure decisions made today will directly impact generations to come. Drawing on the most recent developments in social and environmental science as well as the expertise of practitioners, this course aims to build a better understanding of how climate and sustainability development goals can be achieved through sustainable infrastructure development. It will provide an introduction to SuRe®, an international voluntary standard for infrastructure.
In the context of pressing challenges including rapid urbanization, population growth, climate change, and the degradation of natural capital, sustainable and resilient infrastructure projects offer a key opportunity for job creation, social inclusion, and building long-term resilience. This course will build expertise for the development of sustainable infrastructure by introducing tools relevant to the planning, financing, procurement, and contracting of sustainable and resilient infrastructure projects. Participants will be introduced to SuRe®, an international voluntary standard for infrastructure, and the set of criteria that SuRe® applies in order to make infrastructure more sustainable and resilient.
This course will run for six weeks. Week 1-5 includes videos, articles, and reflection through engaging quizzes and activities. Week 6 focuses on critical reflection and application of new knowledge on a specific project. Participants will provide and receive meaningful feedback to and from other participants on their project.
