This publication summarizes the results and methodological findings of a first round of test applications of the European Framework for Integrated Environmental and Economic Accounting for Forests. Its objective is to provide an insight into the experience gained and progress made in linking forest-related data to the national accounts. The data set out in this report are the result of pilot applications and should not be considered as final. In particular, the integration of ecological and social functions of forests is an issue of on-going work within the Eurostat Task Force on Forest Accounting.
 
The report is organized into the following sections:
  • A summary of the main findings from the pilot applications, including an illustration of the kind of indicators and accounting aggregates that can be directly derived from the tables of the forest accounting framework.
  • A description of the methodological issues that have been addressed in the pilot applications, along with conclusions and recommendations for future refinements.
  • Comparative tables that are based on the aggregation and analysis of the data provided by the pilot applications.
  • Detailed forest accounts tables for each country in their original format.

Ecosystem Services Accounting, Part 1: Outdoor Recreation and Crop Pollination

This report was produced in the context of the Knowledge Innovation Project on an Integrated system of Natural Capital and ecosystem services Accounting (KIP INCA), which aims to develop a set of experimental accounts at the EU level, following the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting - Experimental Ecosystem Accounting (SEEA-EEA). It assesses and accounts for two ecosystem services: outdoor recreation (on a daily basis) and crop pollination. Each service is assessed biophysically using the ESTIMAP toolbox, and then translated into monetary units using valuation methods consistent with the System of National Accounts.

Pilot Ecosystem Account for Southern Palawan

Wealth Accounting and the Valuation of Ecosystem Services (WAVES)
This paper reports on the findings of the Southern Palawan Pilot Ecosystem Account in the Philippines, which follows a standardized system called the System of Environmental Economic Accounting – Experimental Ecosystem Accounting (SEEA-EEA) that ensures comparability, both nationally and internationally, and consistency with regularly produced economic statistics. Therefore, ecosystem accounts can be used to monitor trends in natural capital as well as the enforcement of resource management policies.
