Cristina Eghenter is currently Deputy Director for Governance and Social Development at WWF-Indonesia, and Civil Society Strategy Leader of the Heart of Borneo Global Initiative. Since she joined WWF over fourteen years ago, she has focused on strengthening and mainstreaming social equity and sustainable development in conservation with a focus on rights, mobilization of local constituencies for natural resource management and development, Indigenous Peoples’ rights and conservation areas, environmental governance, sustainable livelihoods, wellbeing and fair economic benefit-sharing.
She has been active in various initiatives at regional level such as the Collaborative Management Learning Network, ICCAs Consortium, and several consultations (Protected Areas and Equity; FSC principles and standards; Indigenous Peoples and World Bank standards). She also championed several initiatives in WWF at national, regional, and global levels (e.g., Learning Action Network; Social Development for Conservation; green economies for equity and wellbeing, empowerment and partnerships with civil society), and conducted advocacy work for equitable governance of natural resources and human rights at CBD, WPC and post-2015 SDGs agenda. She has produced several publications, papers and reports, tools and guidelines.
