What is Stockholm+50 and what is the purpose?
In 1972, countries from around the world gathered in Stockholm for the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment around the motto “Only One Earth”. Five decades later, Stockholm will welcome the world again on 2 – 3 June 2022 for the Stockholm+50 international conference, hosted by Sweden and Kenya. The motto is ‘A Healthy Planet for the Prosperity of All – our Responsibility, our Opportunity.’
Stockholm+50 offers an opportunity for nations and stakeholders to collaborate, share expertise, and address complex nexus issues for urgent actions and long-term system change.
What are the Regional Multi-Stakeholder Consultations and why was it important?
Stockholm+50 is an open forum where interested parties were invited to share their experiences and initiatives to help to rebuild trust and cooperation for a healthy planet. The five regional consultations that happened virtually from the month of April to May were organized by UNEP with the support of GO4SDGs, to discuss regional specific topics, sectors, and solutions creating an opportunity for stakeholders and all major groups from the private sector to government representatives.
