Introduction to GGGI

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies. GGGI's Climate Action and Inclusive Development (CAID) programme supports members and partners in the development of enabling environment policy for green growth transformations and climate action. Evidence-based analysis and broad stakeholder engagements at the hearth of national, subnational and sector level policies is key to ambitious target-setting, robust low-carbon and resilient development pathways, and socially inclusive outcomes.

Overview of GGKP

The Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is co-hosted by GGGI in partnership with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). These organizations serve as the joint host of the GGKP Secretariat on behalf of the GGKP Steering Committee (UNEP, GGGI, OECD, UNIDO and World Bank). The GGKP is a global network of over 90 international organizations, research institutes and non- governmental organizations focused on promoting a green economy transition. 

Purpose

GGGI is seeking to hire a Senior Officer, based in Seoul, Korea, who will work as a member of the GGKP Secretariat and be responsible for supporting GGKP's platform and expansion activities. In so doing, the candidate will also play a key role in GGGI's global and regional knowledge-sharing programmes that work to support GGGI country programme delivery activities. This will include enabling GGGI country-focused teams and country stakeholders to access global GGKP knowledge resources more effectively on green growth, share their own knowledge resources at an international level, and to utilize the GGKP platform and partnership network to promote and exchange knowledge products. The Senior Officer will also assess the performance of GGGI knowledge products and identify areas of improvement.

Within the scopes of responsibilities, the Senior Officer will also be responsible for, but not limited to:

Knowledge generation and management

  • Based on project experience propose, develop and support publications and knowledge dissemination including through the organizing of internal and external knowledge events.

  • Engage internally within the Community of Practice environment and contribute to knowledge exchange and capacity transfer across the organization.

Resource mobilization and strategic partnerships

  • Support the resource mobilization to the Climate Action and Inclusive Development (CAID) programme.

  • Undertake responsibilities for new proposal development for funding from earmarked sources, in close consultation with partners and GGGI teams.

Engagement

The Senior Officer will support the day-to-day implementation, expansion and fundraising for the GGKP web platforms and initiatives as part of the GGKP Secretariat. The Senior Officer will also support GGGI's engagement with the GGKP by: 

  • Engaging with GGGI's Green Growth Planning & Implementation (GGP&I) country teams to facilitate knowledge exchange between country programs and the GGKP

  • Collaborating with sectoral/thematic experts (focusing on renewable energy, green buildings and industry, sustainable transport, circular economy, green investment, climate smart agriculture, gender equality and social inclusion and carbon pricing) to create synergies in knowledge creation and dissemination

  • Engaging with external GGKP knowledge partners to generate, gather and exchange key knowledge products on green growth

  • Developing outreach campaigns harnessing different GGKP resources to promote the work of GGGI and GGKP Knowledge Partners

  • Maintain productive relationship with project partners and beneficiary institutions

Delivery

  • Lead GGGI's contributions to the day-to-day implementation and further expansion of the GGKP, and manage delivery inside of GGGI's Project Cycle

  • Communicate with the GGKP Secretariat to ensure programme objectives and work plans are conveyed and coordinated

  • Identify and pursue resource mobilization opportunities

  • Work with the GGKP knowledge management team to identify, curate and publish relevant knowledge products to the GGKP web platforms

  • Collaborate with GGGI country teams to identify, analyze and develop knowledge and communications products to be included in the GGKP web platforms

  • Monitor the response to GGKP's efforts through use of web analytics, surveys and user interviews and advise on opportunities to improve outreach and promote awareness of GGKP's platforms and initiatives

  • Contribute to GGKP fundraising activities focused on expansion of the to the GGKP web platforms and initiatives including by interacting with clients and partners to facilitate assessment of needs and the provision of services which meet expectations

  • Serve as GGGI's focal point and coordinator for the GGKP on its day-to-day operations in coordination with the GGKP Secretariat

  • Participate in GGKP research committees to produce new knowledge products

  • Have a supporting role in the planning and organization of the GGKP annual conference

  • Serve as GGGI's focal point for the GGKP and collaborate with partner organizations in coordination with the Partnerships team

  • Plan and coordinate GGGI's participation in GGKP annual conferences

  • Participate, along with GGGI's GGKP Coordinator, in bi-weekly GGKP Coordinator calls and quarterly Steering Committee calls

  • Engagement with outreach opportunities, including through preparation and delivery of presentation materials, as well as providing input to events and other opportunities

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in public policy, communication, economics, environmental studies, business administration, engineering, or other relevant disciplines

  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in green growth, sustainable development, or development economics

  • Direct experience working in developing countries and with international development institutions is strongly preferred, ideally on green growth or related issues

  • Specific knowledge/experience including, but not limited to, an in-depth understanding of international development, knowledge management, communications, or partnership engagement

  • Experience developing and delivering effective knowledge management and knowledge sharing programs within and between organizations

  • Experience in project cycle management and effective means of communications preferred

  • Solid understanding of organizations and/or research institutions producing green growth knowledge

  • Experience of working in multi-country context and international setting

  • Experience of managing and executing international workshops and conferences

  • Experience in establishing successful collaborative relationships and partnerships across different organizations; an existing network in the green growth and green economy field is strongly preferred

  • Ability to work in a virtual team operating across multiple locations

  • Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills

  • Fluency in English is required

Functional

  • Strong technical background in green growth-related sectors or themes

  • Proven experience in green growth-related knowledge development, management and sharing

  • Ability to understand and promote the application of state-of-the-art technical analysis and research on relevant development topics

  • Ability to extract and synthesize relevant key messages and recommendations from various and extensive knowledge products

  • Ability to concisely yet effectively communicate and coordinate with GGGI country teams, government partners, and international stakeholders on knowledge generation and sharing

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

  • Experience in analytical research and its applications in the field of green growth is a plus

Working conditions

This position is an X9, international grade level in GGGI's salary scale. For X9 International grade, the base salary starts from USD 77,904. Determination of base salary is subject to candidate's experience, academic background and internal equity. GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance that covers dental and vision.
