As an established global knowledge brokerage, the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is a global community of policy, business and finance professionals and organizations committed to collaboratively generating, managing and sharing knowledge on the transition to an inclusive green and circular economy.

The GGKP is led by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and World Bank. The mission of GGKP is to empower government decision-makers, companies and financial institutions with evidence-based knowledge that can best support them to contribute effectively to the green and circular economy transition. GGKP provides its best practice knowledge brokerage services through its three core platforms -- Green Policy PlatformGreen Industry Platform and Green Finance Platform -- as well as its online interactive community space, the Green Forum. The GGKP also provides targeted knowledge management, communication and stakeholder engagement services for global projects funded under the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The core focuses of GGKP as a knowledge brokerage are:

  • Using world-class knowledge management, communication and application systems and tools to provide practitioners, policymakers and other experts with opportunities to access, share, and apply green and circular economy policy analysis, guidance, information and data.
  • Identifying major knowledge gaps in green and circular economy theory and practice and addressing these gaps by promoting collaboration and coordinated research.

Central to GGKP’s role as a knowledge brokerage is the co-implementation the EU Funded Action “Accelerating the global transition to a green and circular economy”, where GGKP has responsibility for enhancing green and circular economy knowledge generation, management and sharing globally. An overarching objective of this work is to ensure a clear alignment between those stakeholders that produce knowledge, provide enabling policy environment and financial supports, and those that are the end-users of the same.

A consultant is sought to support GGKP’s online interactive community, the Green Forum, with a focus on global community of practices related circular economy topics and specific projects supported by GGKP, such as those funded by GEF. This work includes providing and posting content, facilitating discussions, supporting the creation of new discussion groups, sourcing and compiling inputs and knowledge from community, and strengthening and enriching community engagement. The Community Engagement Consultant will also support the development, engagement and outreach of the Green Forum app, as well as supporting the project coordination. As part of the overall approach to community engagement and outreach, the consultant will additionally provide assistance in the knowledge management and dissemination across the GGKP as required.

Purpose and scope of assignment

The specific tasks under this assignment will include:

  • Assisting with stakeholder engagement, including communication and coordination for GGKP supported projects and the wider GGKP network to support improved satisfaction of GGKP’s knowledge users.
  • Preparing posts for relevant communities of practice.
  • Identifying end-user and stakeholder interests within the field of green and circular economy and recommending relevant information feeds related discussions and groups in the Green Forum.
  • Monitoring and contributing to discussions in the Green Forum, the GGKP platforms and communication channels, which includes, for instance, highlighting or synthesizing key findings, recommendations, or case studies featured in new publications or recent webinars.
  • Sharing and posting important and relevant links to events, opportunities and knowledge on green and circular economy topics.
  • Researching, sourcing and compiling knowledge products and lessons learnt from the community that can be widely shared on the Green Forum, and GGKP platforms and communication channels.
  • Providing support to foster an inclusive and engaging Green Forum community to increase the number of users and encourage retention.
  • Providing insights and training on using the Green Forum to drive community engagement.
  • Preparing communication and outreach materials for the GGKP platforms, supported projects and Green Forum.
  • Organizing community discussions across various thematic areas including but not limited to circular economy and related sub-topics such as chemicals and waste management.
  • Providing support to develop, launch and roll out the Green Forum app.
  •  Supporting other related GGKP tasks as required.
Qualifications/special skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, business, public policy, environmental studies, international development, or a closely related area. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of accumulated work experience closely relevant to the outlined activities, including experience working on circular economy and environmental issues, is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, is required.
  • Knowledge and experience in conducting research and analysis within the context of green and circular economy.
  • Experience in supporting community engagement or social media relevant to green and circular economy, and the related sub-topic of waste management is preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and with teams.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, excellent skills in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
