Industrial development has been at the centre of Burkina Faso's national political agenda since the independence in 1960. Since then, the government has implemented two main strategies: the Industrial Development Strategy and the Strategy for Accelerated Growth and Sustainable Development (SCADD) which recognizes green economy as a mean for development. However, despite little progress, the national economy remains today one of the poorest in the world and the industrial sector is still largely underdeveloped.
The study Green Industry in Burkina Faso: Evaluation and Development Perspectives is aimed at evaluating the status and potential of green industry in Burkina Faso. It highlights the existence of some good practices within the industry. However, despite modern political willingness and the potential of solar energy, the study shows that the transition to green industry remains highly constrained by the low level of knowledge and technical capacity, the lack of financial resources and adequate financial policies, and the relatively high cost of green technologies. To adress these challenges, the study offers some recommendations for the successful transition to green industry.
