Oceans are vital, not only to a wide array of biodiversity and ecosystems, but also to the food chains, livelihoods and climate regulation for a human population heading towards nine billion people.
This report Blue Economy: Sharing Sucess to Inspire Change shares stories that illustrate how economic indicators and development strategies can better reflect the true value of benefits from oceans, in order to help propagate and coordinate emerging efficiencies and opportunities. This, in turn, will help form the foundations for a Blue Economy that is based on resilient systems, persistent innovation, and advances in achieving integrated ecological, economic and social wellbeing.
Key findings from the case studies in this report include the importance of establishing a trusted and diversified knowledge base, complimented with resources which help inspire and support innovation; as well as the importance of developing an engaged process of stakeholder consultation and co-creation of a vision for a Blue Economy.
