Jochen Hinkel

Senior Researcher, Global Climate Forum, Co-ordinator of the GREEN-WIN project

Dr. Jochen Hinkel is senior researcher at the Global Climate Forum (GCF) in Berlin, a lecturer at the Division of Resource Economics at Humboldt University in Berlin and a member of the Berlin Workshop in Institutional Analysis of Social-Ecological Systems (WINS) and a Co-ordinator of the GREEN-WIN project. At GCF Hinkel heads the research on Adaptation and Social Learning, which focuses on the governance of human-environment interactions in the context of climate change mitigation and adaptation, with a particular focus on coastal systems. Hinkel coordinates the new European research project GREEN-WIN, which aims at identifying, developing and critically assessing green business models and green growth strategies that bring short-term benefits to entrepreneurs and/or whole economies while contributing to mitigation and adaptation goals. He has also been a Lead Author on the coastal chapter of the Working Group II contribution to the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Prior to his academic engagement Dr. Hinkel has worked as a development practitioner, software developer and information technology consultant.
