Dr. Hyung-Ju Kim is Director of the Global Strategy Division at the Green Technology Center, Korea. He is also supervising GTC’s Global Climate Technology Cooperation Center closely working with Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP), which is the Korean focal point for UNFCCC technology cooperation. His team supports public institutions and private sector companies in the climate technology field to encourage their collaboration with developing countries on climate mitigation and adaptation. He leads the center’s core work on capacity building, climate technology project modelling, as well as identifying developing countries’ technology needs and matching these to Korean expertise, including identifying pathways to finance. He is currently leading technology transfer feasibility study projects in Bhutan, the Philippines, Mongolia, and other developing countries. Such work is strengthened through cooperation with UN and other international organization such as the GCF, CTCN, UNDP, UNESCAP, and GGGI.
He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical and Production Engineering from the Technical University Berlin in Germany, and worked as a senior researcher at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Europe, located in Germany. He also worked as a research fellow at the Center for Sustainable Systems at the University of Michigan, USA, before joining the GTC. Dr. Kim has published many academic journal papers on sustainability, and has been serving in various advisory roles such as trainer, reviewer and expert panelist for international cooperation organizations, such as Korea International Cooperation Agency and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability.
