The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is looking for a Global - Green Finance Platform Consultant to support its hosted platform - Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) with creating a green finance platform. The contract duration is 25 days, and the application deadline is 25 April 2019.

 

A consultant is sought to prepare the “Explore Green Finance” page; to prepare a 2-3 page note and related PowerPoint presentation providing an overview of the new Green Finance Platform; to review text to be used in the theme and sector pages of the Green Finance Platform (GFP); and to develop the concept, scope and structure for a Green Investment Database.

 

Background of the Project 

The Secretariat of the Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) is jointly hosted by GGGI and UN Environment on behalf of the GGKP steering committee (GGGI, UN Environment, UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the World Bank). The GGKP is a global network of over 60 international organizations, research institutes, and think tanks focused on promoting a green economy transition by:  

  • identifying major knowledge gaps in green growth theory and practice and addressing these gaps through the promotion of collaboration and coordinated research; and 
  • using world-class knowledge management and communication tools to provide practitioners, policymakers, and other experts with opportunities to access, share, and utilize green growth policy analysis, guidance, information, and data.

Following an external assessment of the GGKP, the GGKP founding organizations have decided to expand its successful platform approach create a green finance platform.  

This initiative will build on the institutional knowledge and engagement created by the GGKP to create an on-line knowledge platform for green finance experts and practitioners. Following a scoping study and web development, the Green Finance Platform will launch in mid-2019.

 

Objectives/Purpose of the Assignment:

A consultant is sought to prepare the “Explore Green Finance” page; to prepare a 2-3 page note and related PowerPoint presentation providing an overview of the new Green Finance Platform; to review text to be used in the theme and sector pages of the Green Finance Platform (GFP); and to develop the concept, scope and structure for a Green Investment Database.

 

Scope of Work:

Under the direction of the Head, Green Growth Knowledge Platform Secretariat, the consultant will prepare the following content for the Green Finance Platform: 

Output 1: “Explore Green Finance” feature design outline and text – outline (3 pages) and text (1 page)

  • The “Explore Green Finance” page(s), based loosely and improving upon the structure of the GGKP’s “Explore Green Growth” page, will give GFP users insights into the relationship between finance, environmental sustainability, and the “green economy” paradigm.
  • The feature will cater to an audience from the wider financial sector and can assume that users will already have broad understanding of financial sector.
  • The page will be both narrative and interactive and may incorporate parallax scroll, silent autoplaying video, links to other sections of the GFP, tables, charts, key global statistics, GFP content statistics.
  • The page will be designed to be able to be consumed by users, including any video or features, in about 150 seconds, including video. The feature will prompt users to further explore other sections of the GFP base upon their interest.

Output 2: Economic sector pages - up to 15 individual pages

  • These pages, based off the current GGKP’s sector tertiary pages, will bring together knowledge products at the intersection green economy and the specific economic sector that are relevant to a finance audience.
  • The pages will cater to an audience from the wider financial sector and can assume that users will already have broad understanding of financial sector.

Output 3: Theme pages - up to 25 individual pages

  • These pages, based off the current GGKP’s theme tertiary pages, will bring together knowledge products at the intersection green economy and the specific economic sector that are relevant to a finance audience.
  • The pages will cater to an audience from the wider financial sector and can assume that users will already have broad understanding of financial sector.

Output 4: Finance subsector pages (three individual pages)

  • These pages, based off the structure of the current GGKP’s tertiary pages (sectors, themes), will bring together knowledge products at the intersection green economy and the financial subsector (investment, banking, insurance).
  • The page will cater to an audience from the wider financial sector and can assume that users will already have broad understanding of financial sector.
  • These finance subsector pages will include (terminology to be agreed with the GGKP Secretariat):
    • Investment / Equity
    • Banking / Lending
    • Insurance / Risk

Output 5: Green Investment Database (one database outline plan, 2-3 pages; 25 pages of content)

  • The Green Investment Database (working name), to be developed in cooperation with the GGKP Secretariat, will provide information on various actors who are active, or wish to become active, in making green-related investments or developing for-profit green growth projects.
  • The database, based broadly off the structure and scope of GGKP’s current Drupal-based databases, will be geared to give users an overview of a wide range of finance actors. The database will cater to an audience from the wider financial sector and can assume that users will already have broad understanding of the financial sector.
  • The database plan outline will contain specific guidance about the structure of the completed database in order to be taken up by GGKP’s web vendors. This plan will include what taxonomies (e.g. Institution name, institution category, assets under management, assets dedicated to green projects, countries of operation, counties of interest, sectors of interest, short description, etc.). The document will also include an indicative list of institutions to be included in the database. Additionally, the database plan outline will include introductory text that explains the purpose and use of the tool, to be posted to the GFP.

Output 6: Two-pager and PowerPoint presentation on Green Finance Platform

GGKP will present the Green Finance Platform at various international fora over the course of 2019 and 2020, both directly and through “ambassadors” who work in the finance community. As supporting documents, a 2-3 page note and related PowerPoint presentation will be provided to our partners who present the GFP. These materials will provide an overview of the features, objectives and uses of the new Green Finance Platform with the aim of raising interest in the platform and encouraging organizations to become “Knowledge Partners” for the GFP.

The review and finalization of text for the Sector Pages on the Green Finance Platform, including hyperlinks and relevant Sustainable Development Goals/Targets. (Indicator: Final text of the GFP Sector pages submitted to and accepted by UN Environment)

Output 3: Theme pages - up to 25 individual pages

  • Research of the relevance of various thematic areas (up to 25) to the green finance community. (Indicator: Draft text of the GFP Theme pages submitted to UN Environment for review)
  • The review and finalization of final text for the Theme Pages on the Green Finance Platform, including hyperlinks and relevant Sustainable Development Goals/Targets. (Indicator: Final text of the GFP Sector pages submitted to and accepted by UN Environment)

Output 4: Finance subsector pages (three individual pages)

  • Research of how environmental issues affect various finance subsectors (banking/lending, insurance, investment/equity). (Indicator: Draft text of the GFP Finance Subsector pages submitted to UN Environment for review)
  • The preparation of final text for the Finance Subsector Pages on the Green Finance Platform, including hyperlinks and relevant Sustainable Development Goals/Targets. (Indicator: Final text of the GFP Finance Subsector pages submitted to and accepted by UN Environment)

Output 5: Green Investment Database (one database outline plan, 2-3 pages)

  • Research into the potential the scope and structure of a “Green Investment Database,” an online tool that catalogues investors and project developers focusing on green growth-related projects. (Indicator: Draft “Green Investment Database” plan submitted to UN Environment for review)
  • The preparation of final plan that outlines scope and structure of a “Green Investment Database,”. (Indicator: Final “Green Investment Database” plan submitted to and accepted by UN Environment)
  • The preparation 25 pages, each representing a different institution, to be included in the “Green Finance Database.”  

Output 6: Two-paper and PowerPoint presentation on Green Finance Platform

The preparation of the final text for a 2-3 page note and preparation of a PowerPoint presentation that summarizes the new Green Finance platform (Indicator: Final text for the 2-3 page summary note and final PowerPoint presentation).

 

Qualifications/Experience/Expertise

  • Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in business, finance, economics, public policy, knowledge management or a related topic;  
  • Experience: At least fifteen years of accumulated work experience creating, editing and advising knowledge materials in sustainable finance or a related field; 
  • Language: For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other languages is an asset;  
  • Other: Proficiency or working familiarity with Drupal is an asset.
