Study shows less than 1 % of clean energy technology patents filed in Africa

UNEP and the European Patent Office have released a study which aims at providing facts and evidence to evaluate the actual situation concerning patenting of clean energy technology in Africa. The study "Patents and Clean Energy Technologies in Africa" provides a mapping of Africa's clean energy potential, outlines policies and legal frameworks for patent protection in Africa, provides a statistical analysis of patenting patterns in Africa, and findings and recommendations on how to leverage the patent system to promote access to clean energy technologies in Africa.
