The African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS), a GGKP Knowledge partner, has published the inaugural issue of the African Technopolitan - a biannual magazine that offers constructive, provocative and original ideas, analysis and commentary on how science, technology and innovation can be harnessed to address Africa’s fundamental development challenges.
The magazine will cover issues such as:
- enhancing agricultural productivity and food security
- providing sustainable energy access for all
- universal access to clean water
- fighting infectious diseases and building resilience of African health systems
- sustainable biodiversity conservation and use
- climate change adaptation and mitigation
- industrial development
- structural transformation
In this first issue of the African Technopolitan, ACTS shares highlights of their research, capacity building and policy work from the first half of 2014. It also highlights some key future activities planned for the second half of the year. The magazine also showcases the impressive ACTS alumni, reflecting over the organisations contributions from the last two and a half decades. Through two opinion pieces, the ACTS Executive Director, Dr. Cosmas Milton Obote Ochieng, takes a critical look at the potential role of science, technology and innovation in Africa’s economic development within the context of the ‘Africa rising’ narrative and US Economic Diplomacy in Africa.
ACTS welcomes submissions to the magazine of critical analysis, commentary, and informed opinion from experts and stakeholders in the fields of science, technology and innovation as well as development, conservation and climate change – be they from academia, government, private sector, civil society, donors, development partners or media.
