GGKP News

The Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) warmly welcomes the Bahir Dar Energy Center as a new partner in green growth knowledge.

The Bahir Dar Energy Center is a research hub within the Institute of Technology of Bahir Dar University geared towards sustainable energy engineering solutions that can help address energy poverty, energy efficiency, energy security, and decentralized rural electrification using renewable energies. The Center offers master’s and a newly-launched PhD program in Sustainable Energy Engineering, with research streams focusing on bio-energy, wind energy, solar energy, mini-hydro and efficient cooking and lighting.

The Center also aims to serve as a repository for knowledge and expertise on sustainable energy technology, available to technology users, suppliers and policy makers alike, and to work closely with public, private and community stakeholders to disseminate sustainable energy technologies.

The Bahir Dar Energy Center has a network of international and local partners, including the African Network for Solar Energy (ANSOLE), the Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences (PAUWES), and several small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The Center aims to be among the top ten African renewable energy research centres by 2025 by leading in innovation and technology transfer.
