The Green Growth Knowledge Platform is pleased to announce the launch of its new database for the Batumi Initiative on Green Economy (BIG-E). The database tracks over 100 commitments made to the BIG-E by more than 30 countries and organisations. The BIG-E is a set of voluntary commitments by interested countries and organisations to undertake green economy actions. It serves to operationalize the Pan-European Strategic Framework for Greening the Economy over the period 2016-2030.Taken together, the Strategic Framework and BIG-E provide countries and stakeholders from the pan-European region with a road map to speed up the transition to a green economy.

The BIG-E pledges will continue to be made until 2018. The GGKP created the database in close collaboration with the GGKP Knowledge Partner the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
In order to ensure the 100 commitments are easily accessible to users, the GGKP has created a database that clearly filters the information.  The commitments can be filtered down by country, sector, theme and organisation. Using these filters, the user can browse through and learn more about each of the voluntary commitments made.

BIG-E was announced during the Eighth Environment for Europe (EfE) conference where governments endorsed the Pan-European Strategic Framework for Greening the Economy by acclamation. The Strategic Framework equips countries with a common vision and three broad objectives to reduce environmental risks and ecological scarcities, enhance economic progress and improve human well-being and social equity for the transition to a Green Economy, with nine focus areas to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030 targets.
