Barbados Tourism Mater Plan 2014-2023: Report II. The Environment examines a number of these key issues, including land use, waste management, energy and water use, and also investigates issues related to climate change and disaster management, all of which have significant implications for the tourism industry. A discussion on stewardship and responsible tourism follows, including the pursuit of a green economy, the need for greater environmental awareness, and the importance of visitor management to help reduce the negative effects of tourism on the environment. Strategies and actions are presented in Section 3.0 of this report, focusing on the conservation and sustainable use of the environment upon which the tourism product depends, and aligning with the policy statements presented in the White Paper on sustainable tourism development in Barbados.
