Multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) are the predominant legal method for addressing transboundary environmental problems. Nowadays several countries, particularly least developed countries and developing countries, need to develop their capacities for the better implementation of both environmental and economic obligations in order to ensure adequate application and compliance of MEAs. UNITAR contributes to this by delivering capacity development and knowledge sharing initiatives in the areas of good governance, environmental law, trade and investment agreements and effective global environmental protection.
The main objective of this course is to introduce effective ways of integrating sustainable development into international economic agreements and other legal instruments (i.e. bilateral investment agreements, free trade agreements, and agreements within the WTO framework).
