On 16 May 2018 (2:30 PM CEST) the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) is holding a webinar on the question "Can Blockchains Play A Role in Climate Data Quality Management?"
Two major challenges around national and international climate data services are transparency around the data generation process and quality control. These challenges were particularly evident in the EU-MACS (European Market for Climate Services) project, where lower quality data may have disinclined users to utilise the climate data services or resort to using lower quality data.
Blockchain technology has major potential to help improve data quality and traceability of data generation pathways. To become useful in this space, blockchains need to be supported by protocols and information certification systems around designated transaction steps on the basis of shared principles and standards. This webinar will examine the properties and prerequisites for application of blockchain technology in the field of climate data services.
